.: A brief History of Gryphcon

Gryphcon has a long and proud history of bringing gaming to the people of Guelph and the surrounding area. The first convention was in 1988 and the co-creators were GAGA (Guelph Adult Gamers Association) and the University of Guelph Games Club . The Games Club was originally responsible for running the role-playing games and GAGA looked after the board gaming games. Three of the original board games played were Ogre Demolition, World in Flames that ran the whole weekend and Supremacy. There was also a great Battletech tournament. We also ran one of the first Cyberpunk tournaments in the area. Over the years the popularity of role-playing games increased and they became the main focus for the convention so the University of Guelph Games Club took over. The Games Club has since expanded the convention to include gaming of all genres. People keep coming back to Gryphcon year after year!

.: Things to Expect This Year

We are hoping to bring back many of Gryphcon's old favourites. These favourites including the midnight madness LARP, the Monster Mash and an entire weekend of Living Greyhawk. We are also looking at increase the amount of board gaming, war gaming and collectable card gaming at this years convention. If you're interested in running anything at Gryphcon please contact us or visit our games submissions page!
